It shows an error code
Modern washers report most faults as a code on the display. Write down the exact code and your model number when you book. It tells your technician where to start.
Is your washer worth repairing?
Usually. The most common washer failures, like drain pumps, door locks, lid switches, belts and door gaskets, are moderate repairs on a machine that otherwise has plenty of life left.
Replacement starts to make sense when an older machine needs drum bearings, which take a lot of labor, or when the tub or cabinet is badly rusted. A common rule of thumb is that if the repair costs less than about half the price of a comparable new washer, repairing it is the better value. Your technician explains the options after the diagnosis.
Before your technician arrives
- If the washer won’t drain, check that the drain hose isn’t kinked behind the machine. On a front-loader, the drain filter behind the small panel at the bottom front is often clogged with lint or a coin. Unplug the washer and have towels and a shallow pan ready before opening it.
- If it bangs during spin, redistribute the load and try again.
- Write down any error code and the model number.
What the visit costs
The diagnostic visit is $89 for residential properties and $129 for commercial properties. It covers finding the cause and explaining your options, including what the repair will involve.
Washer questions
Why does my front-load washer smell?
Usually from moisture and residue trapped in the door gasket and the drain filter. Leave the door open between loads, wipe the gasket and clean the filter. If the smell comes with draining problems, book a visit.
Do you repair both top-load and front-load washers?
Yes. We repair both, including stacked washer-dryer units.
