Garage freezers and inland heat
Inland North County summers are hard on garage freezers. A freezer has to push heat out of its coil into the air around it, and when the garage is hot, it runs longer and wears faster. Keep the unit out of direct sun, leave a few inches of space around it for airflow, and brush dust off the condenser coil. Not every freezer is designed for an unconditioned garage, so check your manual for its recommended room temperature range.
Is your freezer worth repairing?
Fans, relays, thermostats, defrost parts and door gaskets are usually worth fixing, especially when the freezer is full of food. Replacement makes more sense for an older, basic freezer with a failed compressor or a refrigerant leak.
What the visit costs
The diagnostic visit is $89 for residential properties and $129 for commercial properties. It covers finding the cause and explaining your options, including what the repair will involve.
Freezer questions
How long will food stay frozen if my freezer stops?
According to USDA food safety guidance, a full freezer holds its temperature for about 48 hours if the door stays closed, and a half-full one for about 24 hours. Keep the door shut until your technician arrives.
Do you repair chest freezers?
Yes. We repair both upright and chest freezers, including units in garages and outbuildings.
